QUILTED CLOACK

From the collaboration between Talking Hands and studiolucianobertoncini comes "50Kg", a collection of 50 limited and numbered edition plaids included in the new outdoor catalog of the upholstery company WOW Italy.
The Quilted Cloack is an additional blanket to keep in the house, on the terrace, or to take on vacation. A plaid of the size of 160 x 120 cm that can be used for different purposes, in autumn and in the cold months is useful to wrap us and keep us protected and warm but in addition to insulate us from the cold is to all intents and purposes a work of textile art that stands halfway between craftsmanship and artistic representation.

Quilted Cloack is in fact a celebration of diversity, no two plaids are the same. Each piece is the result of the handmade assembly of recycled textile material coming from the "Lanificio Paoletti dal 1795" by the Talking Hands designers.
"Lanificio Paoletti dal 1795", is an historical manufacture based in Follina (TV) specialized in the creation and full-cycled production of fabrics in pure carded wool.  To guarantee our work, we have monitored and quantified the environmental impact of the operation of reusing the wool together with Engineer3d, an innovative startup that deals with sustainability in the world of fashion.
The striped construction, large-scale designs, highly contrasting colors, and variations from symmetrical patterns evoke some of the textile motifs found in certain regions of sub-Saharan Africa.

Each quilt is laminated and bordered with a 100% cotton fabric printed with a wax reserve dyeing technique (Wax Print) by the Ivorian UNIWAX a leading company in the production of printed fabrics in West Africa.

The plaids collection is made up of 50 single-edition pieces for a total weight of of 50 kilograms of regenerated carded wool.

The waste of resources we avoided is not only about how much material was saved from the landfill, but also how much was saved compared to using newly produced wool.

Engineer3d's analysis, carried out using LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) methodology, shows that the following have been avoided:

• The emission of 930 kg CO2, equivalent to 3580 km of driving;

• The consumption of 380 000 liters of water, equal to 1.5M glasses of water or 470 days of drinking water;

• The use of 400 kWh of energy produced from fossil fuel.
